The recently popular Clubhouse software.
I joined Clubhouse a few times and found that this software is addictive, and may be very bad for many people. If you become too absorbed, you may spend four or five hours on it, your head almost exploding, yet you are so addicted you cannot leave.
I still have not seen how this company makes money as a business model.
In Clubhouse chat rooms, there are divisions:
Moderator: can invite listeners onto the stage to speak.
Speaker: invited onto the stage, can speak and converse.
Followed by speakers.
Seats followed by speakers, and other listeners, other in the room, general listener seats.
I believe that although this is a good division, it also creates a kind of social hierarchy.
My experience from joining a few times, and this is a very beginner experience and cannot be used as a comprehensive reference:
-
At first it is very interesting. You can follow others and raise your hand. If invited onto the stage, you can express your opinions. The more you speak, the more people will follow you. You may want more followers, and therefore want to work hard to express opinions.
-
This is a hierarchical kind of chatting, and also a very loose chat room. People come from everywhere. Not everyone necessarily agrees with what you say, perhaps because they do not understand or are on a different path, but everyone is still fairly polite.
-
Because the chat content is loose, most of the time is very wasteful. I once stayed in a chat room for five or six hours. Many friends in Asia chatted from midnight until dawn. It was truly crazy. I do not recommend young people join Clubhouse.
-
In one chat room, such as an investment chat room, people were not really talking about investing. They were all talking at once, talking about trading and personal opinions, which could not really be called investing. Some views I expressed were almost either not understood or not accepted by speakers, unless friends who had watched my videos spoke together.
-
In chat rooms, apart from everyone talking at once and wasting time, sometimes there are one or two very specialized experts, such as in Bitcoin mining, decryption, encryption, hacking, and so on, chatting about very professional technology. In the end, the whole room, with hundreds or thousands of people, just watches two or three people talk about things with no practical meaning for ordinary people.
I originally thought about opening investment lectures or investment chat rooms on Clubhouse, but in such a loose environment where people are actually there to relax and chat, although chat rooms are not relaxing at all, overly rigorous chatting may not be effective. It is better to keep our courses and YouTube videos, because they can achieve the real purpose of learning investing. Also, I found that ZOOM is more suitable for lecture chat rooms.
The points above are my observations. If you also have experience, you can let me know.
I found that Clubhouse has a way of inviting friends.
-
If you do not make your contacts public to Clubhouse, Clubhouse gives you two invitation slots. When you use up the invitation slots, it is said Clubhouse may give you one or two more slots after a few days.
-
If you make your address book public to Clubhouse, Clubhouse will not give you the two basic invitation slots, which is what happened to me. Instead, when someone in your address book downloads the Clubhouse app, it will notify you and ask whether you are willing to invite this friend to join. This is less restricted by invitation count.
