In an up year, move 30% (or 50%) of that year's gain from the 2x leveraged fund into a money market fund or short-term bond fund. Unless you are relatively conservative, using 30% for smart rebalancing should produce somewhat better long-term performance.
In a down year, move an amount equal to 2% of the original total investment assets, including the unlevered fund, leveraged fund, and money market or short-term Treasury fund, from the money market or short-term Treasury fund into the 2x leveraged fund.
If your initial asset allocation is 10,000,000, then 2% is 200,000. Whether your assets later become 5,000,000 or 30,000,000, smart rebalancing still uses 200,000.
Definition of an up year: the QQQ (00662) price on December 31, 2024 is higher than the price on January 1, 2024. On the first market-opening day of 2025, move 30% (or 50%) of the 2024 appreciation in 00670L into 00864B. Moving 30% will gradually increase volatility; moving 50% keeps volatility roughly unchanged.
