A letter from a student in Taiwan, shared word for word: after hearing about CLEC at the end of 2021, he invested boldly at the 2022 high, pledged his shares to stop himself from selling, bought 00662 whenever he had money, and finally saw profits in 2023.

Estate tax in Taiwan can be paid in kind, so heirs need not sell shares just to pay it. Funding living costs with a stock-backed loan could leave a net estate more than NT$400 million larger after 40 years—provided interest rates, loan ratios, and forced-liquidation risk are managed.

Buying in batches only feels safer; statistically it does not beat a lump sum. The market rises over the long run, so a lump-sum entry wins the vast majority of the time. No perfect way to buy in exists—holding for the long term and never selling is what matters.

Beating buy-and-hold is not about timing or forecasting the market: buy a U.S. broad-market index fund the moment you have money, buy at any time, and never sell. Waiting for a low usually costs more than buying at a high.

You can sense where the market is on your own—and if you can't, that's fine. Making money doesn't require knowing much: invest steadily in an index fund like QQQ (Taiwan's 00662), buy and hold, and you can still reach financial freedom.

The hardest part of investing isn't market swings but admitting what you don't know. Focus on what you can control: keep investing, hold long term, manage risk, and stay disciplined.
