Over the long run, the market only rises

Clubhouse: relaxed conversations about investing, CLEC Investment and Financial Management Channel, July 6, 2024

Market volatility has nothing to do with me!

  • Market volatility has nothing to do with me!

  • International affairs have nothing to do with me!

  • Market analysis has nothing to do with me!

  • Financial statements have nothing to do with me!

  • Economic conditions have nothing to do with me!

  • None of it has anything to do with me!

  • Ignore the noise and turbulence of the market!

Disclaimer

Since July 2023, we have begun the process of canceling the company registration and nonprofit organization procedures for "CLEC Education Academy" and have changed all names to "CLEC Investment and Financial Management Channel," formerly "CLEC Investment and Financial Management Education Academy." We may still use CLEC. Please remember that unless it is James Chen himself, it has nothing to do with us; do not be deceived.

Our videos and related content are for educational purposes only and are not for profit. We do not operate any discussion groups or communities. If someone invites you to join one, please beware of scams.

For more than twenty years, we have been committed to volunteer teaching and have never profited from it. Do not trust any paid investment advice. Although ads may appear on YouTube videos, that is outside our control and we do not profit from them.

All information we provide is only a sharing of personal experience. It is not advice from a professional investment advisor (Certified Financial Advisor/Planner). Investment decisions should be based on your own research and should not rely solely on video content.

Investing is risky and may lead to significant losses. If you cannot tolerate a short-term loss of more than 10% or a decline of more than 20% over several years, we recommend that you do not invest. Pay attention to your own cash-flow safety and fully understand our investment philosophy before taking action. Invest prudently; all decisions are your own responsibility.

My pinned comment in the YouTube comments area provides handout downloads and related links.

New friends, please watch the following videos on our channel first.

Investing blindly without learning is dangerous

  • Watch our videos and ask specific questions, including:

  • The video number and the timestamp where the question came up.

  • Asking questions after watching the video is the most effective way to learn.

CLEC has no discussion groups, and we have not authorized anyone to act on our behalf

  • We cannot know the membership or purpose of any group, and such groups can easily be infiltrated by people with bad intentions.

The investments we mainly recommend are the Nasdaq 100 index fund QQQ and the corresponding local ETFs issued in each country

  • Do not rely entirely on financial consultants, including Charles Schwab financial consultants. They can help with account opening, but we do not recommend fully adopting the ETFs or other financial products they suggest.

  • Over the long term, the Nasdaq 100 index fund and the S&P 500 index fund have been among the best-performing investments. Outside of these, individual stocks, funds, and financial products usually do not help investment success and should be avoided.

We recommend investing 100% in a Nasdaq 100 index fund

  • United States: We recommend buying QQQ, or QQQM for smaller accounts. Cash can be placed in money market fund SWVXX or short-term Treasury bill ETFs BIL and SGOV.

  • Taiwan investors: We recommend Fubon NASDAQ 00662. Cash can be invested in CTBC U.S. Government 0-1 Year Bond ETF Fund (00864B.TW).

  • China investors: We recommend 513100/513300/160213/159941/161130/159660.

  • Hong Kong investors: You can choose HKD 3086, USD 9086, ETF 2834 (HKD), or 9834 (USD).

  • Canada investors: We recommend converting to U.S. dollars and buying QQQ directly, or investing in Canadian-dollar products QQC.TO/ETF (HXQ.TO).

  • Australia investors: We recommend buying NDQ.

  • United Kingdom investors: We recommend the U.S.-dollar-denominated iShares VII Public Limited Company - iShares NASDAQ 100 UCITS ETF (CNDX.L). In Europe, we recommend EQQQ and CSPX.L.

  • Brazil: The recently launched Nasdaq index fund is NASD11.

  • Japan investors: You can choose 2568/1545/2631.

  • Malaysia and Singapore investors: You can purchase U.S. QQQ through a Phillip Securities POEMS Cash Plus trading account.

  • South Korea: The recommended QQQ ETFs are 368590.KS/133690.KS/367380.KS.

Since 2018, we have kept all videos on YouTube so everyone can learn investing in chronological order

  • The videos reflect the market conditions and appropriate investment decisions at the time. As time changes, some strategies may no longer apply. They remain valuable learning resources.

  • Viewers should interpret each video in the context of the market conditions at that time, and develop their own thinking and judgment.

  • Our early investment recommendations included certain individual stocks and regular funds. Although they were good choices at the time, suitable investments must also account for personal risk tolerance and investment strategy.

Recently I discovered a problem with Taiwan stock pledged-loan quotas

  • So far, most of this problem has occurred with pure securities dealers.

  • It is recommended that you go to the securities finance company to pledge.

  • General pure securities firms have low capital, and a quota of 10 billion will blow their quota and they will no longer have a quota.

  • But for securities companies with large capital and strong financial resources, there will be no problem of quota usage.

  • It is recommended that everyone transfer to a securities finance company for pledge.

CLEC James Investment Advisor

  • Some people have used the free ChatGPT or they can use the GPTs I developed myself. I have been trained, but sometimes there are still slight errors. You can try to use it, but you also need to make your own judgment to see whether the answer is in line with our investment philosophy and asset allocation. If you have any questions, let me know! Better improvements!

People who trade based on premiums or discounts are showing ignorance in this area

  • Don't worry about premiums or discounts. The market may keep premiums for a lifetime (just like the price of the same electrical product sold in the United States is different from the price sold in China or Taiwan. Taiwan and China may be more expensive. You can't never buy American electrical products or mobile phones just because they are more expensive).

  • If the U.S. market is always bullish, the premium will not converge and may expand. If you stop buying, you will lose a lot.

  • If the premium converges, it means that everyone is not very optimistic about the market outlook, so the premium means that the market will continue to rise, so there will be a premium. Commodities that continue to rise will have a premium, and commodities that continue to fall will have a discount. This is a phenomenon that occurs in all commodities. You cannot buy or sell because of the premium or discount.

  • A bunch of people acting on premiums or discounts are ignorant of this aspect.

  • What is the basis for the 2% inflation rate that the Federal Reserve wants? Why not 1% or 3%? If it is a rule of thumb, is it possible that different time and space backgrounds have different appropriate inflation rates?

  • James :

  • The Federal Reserve's control of inflation within 2% cannot be too low or too high. The main reason is to prevent people from feeling the existence of inflation. If ordinary people feel the existence of inflation, inflation will rise in a spiral. Because people feel the existence of inflation, they will rush to hoard materials, and may also ask their bosses for a raise. When salaries increase, everyone's purchasing power does not shrink, causing a spiral of inflation.

  • In addition, the Federal Reserve does not want deflation. If it is deflation, the economy is not good, and ordinary people do not feel safe, they will not want to buy things, which will delay consumption or save consumption, and deflation will spiral downward. This is not what the Federal Reserve wants to see.

  • So the Federal Reserve wants to control inflation within a small range, neither deflation nor letting people feel the existence of inflation. I don’t know if they have really studied it. An inflation of 2% means that ordinary people cannot feel the fluctuation of prices, and it will not cause human hoarding or panic buying psychological effects.

We welcome the government to print a lot of money!

  • There is nothing wrong with the government printing a lot of money!

  • The United States has the most debt, prints the most money, and is the strongest country.

  • The more debt you have, the richer you are, so printing lots of money is great for countries that know how to create wealth for their people.

European fiscal discipline prevents Europe from quickly escaping recession

  • Japan has been lost for thirty years because the central bank did not know how to print a large amount of money at the beginning.

  • Taiwan is also a country with very good fiscal discipline, but the people are suffering, and the poor are even harder.

  • Learn from the United States to save the economy with a large amount of loose money. This is the most basic financial knowledge and operation.

  • Just like a person who bleeds heavily in a car accident, the emergency doctor must transfuse a large amount of blood. Too little will lead to death.

  • An economy must have normal circulation, currency is the blood of the economy, it must be sufficient, circulation must be encouraged, the people have money, people know the financial power of the government and dare to spend money, then it is a healthy economy.

The larger an economy is, the greater its output and the faster goods must circulate

  • Currency has a multiplier effect. With a multiplier effect of 20 times, I don’t know whether the first amount spent by the government is efficient, but the multiplier effect of the subsequent 19 times should be more efficient.

  • The larger an economy is, the greater its output and the faster the flow of goods.

  • Just like the more boats on your river, the more water your river will have and the wider your river will be.

  • If there is not enough money, it is like there is not enough water in a river, and there is no way to achieve smooth flow.

The economy will stagnate!
